Sandy, if you hold the stamp upside down and pat it with the ink pad, it works better to get all of the stamp inked. Also, when you stamp with a clear stamp, there is no cushioning on it. Put an old mouse pad or a magazine under it and then stamp. You get a more even stamp image that way.
The mousepad works if the stamp is etched deeply, Margaret - if it's shallow, like the one I was working with, the flatter the better. The soft surface actually makes the splooge worse :(
