Sandy's next idea: State digis!

It's Sandy here with a treat - and a big idea!

This weekend, one of the prizes at our Facebook party was a digi of the state flower for the winner's home state...Kathryn B was the winner, so Maryland is our flower digi! The Black-Eyed Susan is a bright yellow flower with a black center....so pretty and cheery!

While I was at it, I also did the state bird, the Baltimore Oriole...it's got an orange underbelly, and the orange goes a little golden by the time it gets to the tail. The feathers on top are black and white:
While I was working on these, the creative juices started flowing and I made a sort of 'seed pack' design with the flowers:
I made some sample cards; if you want to know more about how they were made, I'm posting them on my blog this evening:

And then I had more ideas starting to cook! What if.....what if OWH had a set of digis for every state? These would be awesome for AnyHero cards for those from that state, and could also work as regular cards as well. And heck, who doesn't love to color flowers!  (Okay I know some people don't!)

The next problem is....how to decide which states are next? How about this: the next three will be the three states with the most AnyHero mail through the whole month of March...another 10 days left! We can do that monthly, or for whenever I've got time to make the digis....we can also have them as prizes for challenges.....heck, maybe we'll even pick a random commenter on our blogs! So for now, be sure to include some AnyHero mail if you're still sending in cards during March....push your state to the top of the list!

Once we get a couple states done, I'll start a page on our website to collect all the digis together; then if anyone googles for images like these, they'll end up at OWH....and we can gain some new cardmakers that way! *grin*

What do you think? What other ideas do you have for how we can pick which states are next?

I love the new digis! Thanks so much for sharing!

Julie  – (March 21, 2011 at 7:49 PM)

Love it! Can't wait to see what's next!

MomOfAllTrades  – (March 21, 2011 at 7:52 PM)

OH MY GOSH!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! and I LOVE your idea to do every state!!! Can't wait to see what's up and coming!!! :)

Kathryn  – (March 21, 2011 at 7:59 PM)

Thanks for choosing me so MD could be first! These digis are amazing and I can't wait to try them out. I've never used a digi before, but I am eager to try!

ms Joyce  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:04 PM)

Can hardley wait for the next digis. Waitin for the OHIO ones.

TR  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:04 PM)

These are amazing! Doing all the states is such a great idea.

Velda  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:12 PM)

This was a great idea! Sounds like work for you. Very nice.

mmwilken  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:14 PM)

These are absolutely wonderful!! Thanks so much Sandy!! Your the best!

AllisonG  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:24 PM)

Oh my gosh! Those images are just amazing. And I absolutely LOVE the idea of doing every state. Can't wait to see what you do with a Texas bluebonnet (which have just started blooming) and mockingbird! I'm getting my daughter's entire elementary school to write Any Hero letters as a Student Council community service project. The sponsor has all the materials and the next meeting is Wednesday, so maybe Texas WILL be next - Woohoo!

FibreJunky  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:31 PM)

These are wonderful!!! Just so happens that we live in MD - and the spousal unit is retiring here. He's spent more time stationed in MD than any other place in his entire military career. Thank you!

gbinion  – (March 21, 2011 at 8:46 PM)

this is an awesome idea!!! sounds like you thought it thru pretty good... i like your ideas!!

Paula S.  – (March 21, 2011 at 9:00 PM)

Fun idea Sandy. Back with the group I sent through, before I found OWH I used to send/write notes (what we any hero cards) on typical tourist postcards I would pick up in gift shops here in Connecticut. They seemed to be a great hit.

Nicole  – (March 21, 2011 at 9:25 PM)

How to choose the next state (ideas):
-Draw from a hat.
-Randomize the order in an excel sheet.
-Order of Statehood.
-The good ol' fashioned Alphabetical.
-Vote every month on the facebook. (limit time to an hour or so).

Oh, and Ms. Sandy, you're my hero and I love your guts for doing this.

Donna  – (March 21, 2011 at 9:27 PM)

What a fabulous idea! I love the cards too! Can't wait to see what's next!

Dolores A. –   – (March 21, 2011 at 9:30 PM)

Hey Sandy...so happy that our Maryland was the first to get these great digis! It's a great idea but lots of extra work for you. I'm sure everyone will love this, so thanks and God bless you!

Jan Hunnicutt  – (March 21, 2011 at 9:43 PM)

lol, how about starting with Arizona! :), hehe I just had to say that since it's at the very beginning of the alphabet!

I love the digi's you've created and your cards are just fabulous, thanks for the goodies and inspiration!

Wow, Sandy! These are so pretty. Thank you, for sharing!

Kimberley Martini Young –   – (March 21, 2011 at 10:15 PM)

I think the next three states should be the states that the shippers are in. Just another way to say Thank You to the shippers.

grandmalee  – (March 21, 2011 at 10:22 PM)

These are absolutely stunning! Even though I'm not from Maryland, I love the images anyway! Love the random chances especially since Colorado doesn't have as many cardmakers as lots of other states (with all of the bases here I can't imagine why not), and our order of statehood would take forever! Maybe have it as one of the challenge prizes? I'm glad you did the flowers & birds since some lawmakers here a few years ago wanted to make squaredancing the state dance! Sorry to all of you that do this, but I think the state images have gone a bit overboard when we have to resort to this for votes! lol Anyhooo, thanks again for being so gracious with your talent! You're number 1 in my book!

Susan  – (March 21, 2011 at 10:26 PM)

O MY STARS!! These are awesome! what a talent!! My suggestion would be alphabetically starting whenever you are ready to start, I think that would be the most fair way to do it.

and, NO I am not from Alaska, LOL I am in NJ.

THESE really do ROCK! thanks for sharing them with us all.

Susan  – (March 21, 2011 at 10:29 PM)

oh forgot to say, that I REALLY LOVE the seed packet, maybe you can make one with out the sentiment, so it can be used for other sentiments as well. just a suggestion.

beautiful -

can't wait to color it -

I do believe Wisconsin's violet is a prime candidate for the next card.

The digis are gorgeous and so are your samples. I think this is a fabulous idea. Illinois's state bird is the cardinal - would love to color that one.

linda  – (March 22, 2011 at 4:17 AM)

This is beautiful, I can't wait to color these. Thank You.

Carolina Girl (Cely)  – (March 22, 2011 at 4:31 AM)

All of these are so beautiful....thank you so much for the inspiration and wonderful layouts.

PaulaM  – (March 22, 2011 at 4:49 AM)

Sandy, you have done a gorgeous job with the digi's. What an awesome idea too to use these to send to the troops. Now, I vote for Alabama - since it IS the first alphabetically - AND it seems as though there are NO stamp stores near me now!! :( So I don't think there are many that stamp around here.

Carol L  – (March 22, 2011 at 7:00 AM)

There are doers and there are thinkers, and you are definitely both for coming up with this great new idea! TFS these fabulous new digis!! I LOOOOOVEEEE the seed packet!!!

Sherry Hickey  – (March 22, 2011 at 7:16 AM)

Sandy, this is very exciting! Your digis and cards are fantastic; I love love the seed packet!! And to think it started with my idea for the state flag colors, yay. I can't wait to make cards with the first set of state digis!!

Lisa Oliver  – (March 22, 2011 at 8:02 AM)

Sandy, your talent as an artist continues to amaze me! The digi's are first class on their own but then your sample cards are stunning. The colors (and coloring, of course) are gorgeous. Thank you for all you do to encourage and inspire all of us.

PS I agree with Kimberley - the next 3 states should be those of the shippers, starting with WA!

Ann  – (March 22, 2011 at 8:55 AM)

The art work is wonderful! Thanks for sharing with us. I love the seed packet. I vote no for alphabetical since I'm in Washington (unless you start at the bottom). :-)

Absolutely fabulous! I am from MD and the black eyed susan is my fave flower (probably would be even if it wasn't my state flower). I love your digis. That seed pack is awesome. I'm in the process of making some cards now...I usually wait til I've got a good sized batch before I send them. You've already done my state's digi, though, and I can't wait to use them!
