Featured Cardmaker: Kate M., Bossier City, LA

You know Kate as our Tuesday Tutorial coordinator here at the Stars & Stamps blog.  It's about time we got to know her a little more! Leave her some love in a comment here on this post, and be sure to visit her blog, Hello From Kate!

How long have you been stamping? I think it's been about three years now. I fought it for a year or so before that. My best friend and my sister were both stamping before me, and for a while I just didn't "get" it. Finally I got tired of the two of them going to cardmaking events without me, and I gave it an honest effort. Now I'm hooked!

Do you have a craft room or specific area where you stamp? Oh how I need to get organized and have a craft room. It's just me (and three cats) in the house, so my stamping stuff is pretty much all over everywhere right now.

How did you hear about Operation Write Home? I had the idea of starting a blog with the intent of making a card a day for a year, but I doubted I could come up with enough people to make cards for 365 days. My friend Julie heard about (at the time) Cards for Heroes, and knowing how I feel about the military thought it might be just the thing for me to get involved in. She was right!

Do you have a favorite technique? I love the dahlia fold. Looking through my pictures of favorite cards I was surprised how many of them are either dahlias or tri-fold shutter cards. This one pictured has both!
Tutorials for these two:
Dahlia Flower Fold
Trifold Shutter cards

What motivates you to make cards for our heroes? I'm an Air Force Brat, and my dad passed a few years ago. At his funeral it struck me how young the members of the Honor Guard were, and we had just been going through old pictures of Dad when he had the same single stripe on his arm that most of them had. I just feel like it's too easy for people to say they "support the troops" without actually doing something about it, and this is something I am able to do for our Heroes and for their families.

How did you become involved with the Stars & Stamps blog? I made a tutorial video for one of the blog hops last year, and expanded it for the S&S blog with some illustrations. Sandy later asked me if I would be interested in organizing the tutorials for Tuesdays and helping people put their information together.

What has being involved with the blog meant to you? I love it! All my life I've always ended up being a trainer from my first job, tutoring a classmate so he could pass his math class and play football, to my last job as a corporate trainer. I love sharing information with people. I LOVE seeing and hearing that people are using the tutorials, especially for our Heroes!

Today's inspirations from Kate are a great jumpoff for a CASE....pick one of her beautiful creations and make your own version! You can choose the colors from it, follow one of the tutorials listed, or use one of her designs as a "sketch." Leave a link here so we can check out what you've created!
