Independence Day Blog Tour: Start here!

Welcome to our Blog Tour! If you're getting here without knowing what you're in's a cross between a bloghop and a challenge. Bloggers, as well as those posting in galleries, link to this post using InLinkz at the bottom of this post...and we all get to go visit them!

You can post any time through the weekend - multiple times if you wish!

Start Your Engines!
Bloggers (and anyone wanting to post for the tour on an online gallery!): post a birthday-themed card anytime this weekend and link below! You can add blog candy, tutorials, freebies, videos, inspiration, anything you'd like to celebrate America's birthday! Be sure to open up comments to allow anyone to post, and turn off moderation for the weekend - and please turn off sound, we have some older folks who are disconcerted by music that leaps out at them. (Yes, we do get those emails.) Please link back to THIS POST so people can get to the start of the tour!

Pack Your Bags: Take the Tour
Click on the thumbnails to get to the posts, and you may find blog candy offered, tutorials, videos, or other inspiration. Maybe even a challenge to go off and complete! Check back periodically all weekend to see what blogs have been added! Leave comments, you know how we all thrive on feedback!

Travel Chat
Join the discussions on the OWH Forum - watch the "Blogs" section for posts with games, questions, ideas, and other fun things to share for the weekend.

We've prepared another set of free digis for you! They're once again inspired by our OWH mascot dog, Ciara. To download a single page with all of them, click once on the image below, then right click on the NEXT (larger) image. To download a zip file with each individually, click here for jpgs, and here for pngs.

And without further ado....we'll be doing a random drawing of winners for the following prizes! To enter for the drawing, leave a comment here with what you would give to America if you could give the nation a birthday gift. (PLEASE no politics, thanks!)

Lisa (mldesignworks)  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:09 PM)

What a great question! How about another 234 years? Could I give the USA more time? I guess we all can, as long as we remember what it took to get here. Happy Independence Day! Lisa :-)

songbird cindi  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:09 PM)

The best birthday gift would be for the wars to end so that all the troops could come home. Of course, then who would we make cards for? :)

Cassandra  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:14 PM)

A birthday gift to America ... A BIG BEAUTIFUL HANDMADE CARD, of course, what else? :)

Loni  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:20 PM)

creations by jackie  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:24 PM)

What a wonderful question. How about a lifetime of birthdays, freedom and lots, lots of homemade cards for everyone.

JoAnne N. –   – (July 2, 2010 at 3:31 PM)

Well since I just lost a dear friend to cancer last week, I'd love to be able to give the US (and the world) a cure for cancer.

Noelle's Corner  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:33 PM)

Since one of my grandma's lived through a time in her life when she was left on the streets hungry I'd give America food so no one would have to go hungry.

Dolores A.  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:34 PM)

A thought provoking question!
I guess we should all pray for our country's leaders to take us on the right path to peace, economic recovery, jobs, etc., etc.

Adele  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:38 PM)

I would not only like to give the country a balanced budget for its birthday, I'd like to give it a surplus so that everybody that wants to work can find a job, people in need will be able to receive and education for all would be restored.

Erika  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:39 PM)

So much fun! I need to go make a birthday card!

I already give what I can to my nation - the service of my hubby. :) Is there any better gift then to serve, anyway?

Melanie Holzwarth  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:39 PM)

I would give America peace and appreciation, she's worked hard for us all these years, as we've worked hard for her.

Scrappily Ever After Blog

Diana  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:47 PM)

Tough, Tough question.
I would probably try to give the country the beauty queen answer, World Peace.
That way we would not have to have our military overseas in combat zones. If they were stationed overseas they could have family with them.
The way it should be.

Unknown  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:48 PM)

I would give America a reminder of the principles on which she was founded, a unity in following those same principles, a desire to live unselfishly, a deep faith and by giving her those things, I would also be giving her a better future.

ThePurplePlace  – (July 2, 2010 at 3:58 PM)

Let us all pray for Peace and hope that some day we will have all our Troops safely back home!!

Happy Birthday America!!

Andrea  – (July 2, 2010 at 4:10 PM)

I would give America back all of the jobs and all of God's creatures that have been lost in the Gulf.

emarci  – (July 2, 2010 at 4:36 PM)

schuyler dog  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:00 PM)

I would gift everyone in the world with true compassion and tolerance for others. Then we could all understand each other and work to solve problems the world over and in so doing, solve America's problems too.

Kajikit  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:13 PM)

Lots of beautiful cards posted already!
If I could give America a birthday gift this year it would be a giant cork to put in that wretched oil well to stop it up once and for all... that would be a gift for everyone living in the gulf states AND for the wildlife.

Debra  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:21 PM)

Happy birthday USA! My birthday gift would be less stress for everyone. Also our military were back safe and sound.

Celeste  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:32 PM)

I would really like to give our nation peace....

Eileen  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:32 PM)

The gift I would give to America on her 234th birthday is to defend her and our troops until the day I die and to never take our way of life for granted.

Rhonda Miller  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:44 PM)

Oh, these digis are soo cute. I can't wait to print them. If I could give anything to America it would be love for my neighbors, a helping hand when needed. I think we could all use that at times.

Shelly  – (July 2, 2010 at 5:46 PM)

My gift would be peace so that the wars could end. God bless America!!!

Thanks so much for the digis. I love them! They'll show up on some OWH cards in the future. :)

Anita  – (July 2, 2010 at 6:26 PM)

I would thank America for the freedom tthat we have have.

Joanne Gilch  – (July 2, 2010 at 6:29 PM)

Happy Birthday to America! A gift to America - if I could bottle up the peace, love and joy that we as paper crafters have for one another all over the world I would cap it, send it, and have it spread all over this country so every single American could experience what we have! The love, helpfulness, courage, sincerity that we have for one another in this 'paper' world could go a long way!

Shirley  – (July 2, 2010 at 6:58 PM)

I remember reading of how this country pulled together as one nation under God during WWII. I saw this same thing after the tragedy of 911. I would like to give this country that singleness of purpose without a national tragedy causing it.

Erica  – (July 2, 2010 at 7:11 PM)

I would give everyone in the country a day of total peace.

grandmalee  – (July 2, 2010 at 7:51 PM)

I'd give our country enough money to get out of debt, so we could finally pay our Armed Forces what they are worth!

The cards are amazing!!!!! What more can I say????

Paula S.  – (July 2, 2010 at 7:55 PM)

A people who would "pledge their lives, their fortunes and their scared honor". Happy Independence Day everyone!

I would give America Peace as so many others have said. God Bless America the Beautiful!

Lynn  – (July 2, 2010 at 11:41 PM)

I agree with all the peace, love and JOBS! I think I would give this country some rest. Kind of like a parent when then need the 9 screaming kids to take a time out. She never gets to just breathe and be the wonderful country that She is.

BethW  – (July 3, 2010 at 12:08 AM)

Peace, prosperity, and I think a little rest is in order. We have fought the world's battles for so long-it would be nice if we could have at least a little time off to relax and enjoy this beautiful country.

Unknown  – (July 3, 2010 at 12:26 AM)

I would say I would give America jobs & lots of them. There are so many unemployed right now, including my husband.... rough times!

I'm off to hop! Thanks so much for all the fun!

Happy Birthday America!!!

Karen Hasheck  – (July 3, 2010 at 8:09 AM)

My gift would be peace so our men and women in uniform could come home safe and sound.

By the way, I tried to download the cute dog set and since then my computer email is not working. If it continues, I will have to hire professional help to get it going as it is very very important in my life to get and receive emails. You may want to have that file checked before it affects any other users. Of course I said the file was from a trusted source, yet since I tried I cannot bring up gmail.

Karen Hasheck

Dorene  – (July 3, 2010 at 8:13 AM)

My first gift to America would be a health care system that would provide quality care to everyone. Hopefully this would provide many jobs for the current unemployed.

Stacey  – (July 3, 2010 at 9:40 AM)

My gifts to America:

You had my dad in the Air Force for 28 years, and
my nephew currenty in Afghanistan.
Food: for every family every day
Education: cheap enough for anyone with a desire for further education beyond High School could go.
Trades: That people learn trades that computers cant take away. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, we need young people to learn these skills
Creative time: for everyone to be able to craft, paint, or take time to do a hobby every day.
Volunteers, Humanitarians for AMERICA.....
lets take care of our United States.

Karin  – (July 3, 2010 at 9:42 AM)

Simple, I would give everyone a job :)

Jeanne  – (July 3, 2010 at 9:53 AM)

I'd give our troops a safe return home to their families. And of course I'd also give a great big birthday card!

Thanks for the digis sandy!

Becca-Expressions  – (July 3, 2010 at 11:19 AM)

My comment would be too long, so if you really want to know, please visit my July 3 blog at

Sherry Hickey  – (July 3, 2010 at 11:41 AM)

Since I found OWH, all I can think about is making cards, so my answer would be I'd give America a fancy handmade Valentine card to express how much I love my country and how blessed I am to live here!

Dana Klinkner –   – (July 3, 2010 at 12:07 PM)

Such a FUN blog hop! Thank you Sandy for your continued vision and leadership for OWH - it's such a blessing to so many!!!

I would give America the gift of RESPECT & LOYALTY - that all her citizens would respect the freedom we have in this great nation and respect the lives of those who have and are currently sacrificing for that freedom. And loyalty - that all of us would realize what a gift it is to live in this great nation and be loyal to her, fight for her and be willing to do whatever we need to so that she stays strong. Happy Birthday America - you are loved!!!
Dana K.

LesleyfromWI  – (July 3, 2010 at 12:27 PM)

Wow....that's a hard one. If I had a chance for one wish it would be to find cures for all the terrible diseases. Happy 4th!

Deloris  – (July 3, 2010 at 12:27 PM)

I wish I could give America prosperity and peace.

Sew Sew Special  – (July 3, 2010 at 1:06 PM)

Wow...the best gift huh, I'd love to give the country a way to get back to the core principals we were founded upon, Our views have become so clouded, and judgemental, that we fail to remember our humble beginnings. If we could just find a way to get back to the simpler things, and embrace the values of our ancestors, we'd be alot happier, and pave the way for our children to prosper...Happy 4th!

Marsha  – (July 3, 2010 at 1:50 PM)

I would give to America the freedoms we have lost lately, give her back the integrity, honesty, morals, commitment on which she was founded.

Caryl P  – (July 3, 2010 at 2:38 PM)

Wow, a gift for America...Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as that was what set us on this great journey. And for all our troops to come home safely!

Marci  – (July 3, 2010 at 2:48 PM)

I would give reliable, cheap, and eco-friendly energy.

Beth  – (July 3, 2010 at 3:18 PM)

Lone Pine Designs  – (July 3, 2010 at 4:16 PM)

loyaz  – (July 3, 2010 at 4:56 PM)

My gift to America? Peace and Prosperity

Doris T.  – (July 3, 2010 at 6:01 PM)

Great blog hop! Peace would be the best gift ever....

Lena95469  – (July 3, 2010 at 7:15 PM)

Peace would always be nice but I think it would be great if we could give our nations service men and woman higher wages! Its pretty sad that our entertainment ( football, baseball etc) get more then the people protecting and serving our country!

...Darlene  – (July 3, 2010 at 7:22 PM)

I finished I have been working all day today to get through. What a great group of cardmakers! I am so glad to be a part of this. I also made fifteen Halloween cards today.
It's been a good day.

Sandy  – (July 3, 2010 at 10:01 PM)

Yippee! Love these blog hops. I would love to give America enough food so that none shall go hungry.

Susan  – (July 3, 2010 at 10:48 PM)

Meg Bean  – (July 4, 2010 at 6:00 AM)

Marlene Diefendorf  – (July 4, 2010 at 6:46 AM)

This Blog Hop has been one fantastic journey. I'm not quite done yet but the collective talent here is awesome. In case I missed leaving someone some love I'll say 'Thanks to all of you... job well done.'

My gift to America? Peace. Inner peace so our lives would be less stressful and peace for all mankind so our troops can ALL return home.

helloholley  – (July 4, 2010 at 6:52 AM)

I'm having fun on this blog tour.....half way thru now....thanks for the free digis!!!
How about to end the war and safely bring the troops back home!!! Then we could all just start making 'Thank You' cards for the troops...saying 'Thanks for what you did' in PAST tense instead of PRESENT tense!!! Having our men and women HOME...all of them!!! God Bless our Nation and our troops ....past and present!!! Happy Birthday America!!

Joanne Gilch  – (July 4, 2010 at 7:45 AM)

thanks you for a marvelous hop. God Bless you.

RobinH  – (July 4, 2010 at 10:32 AM)

I've had such a wonderful time touring blogs .. didn't make it to all, but have to go celebrate 2 birthdays .. the nation's and the boyfriend's sister.

Thanks Sandy and others for all the time organzing and contributing to this

Carolyn Sharkas  – (July 4, 2010 at 10:38 AM)

I think I would give our nation a
hug. I know that sounds silly, but right now we all need a hug. Times are not as good as we have seen in the past in our homeland, and improvement seems so far away, so a hug gives hope and lets you know you are not alone.

lisa808  – (July 4, 2010 at 11:07 AM)

Thanks for the wonderful digis. We just got a puppy so these images sure will get good use.

A birthday gift for our country--how about teaching everyone about protecting the environment.

furrypig  – (July 4, 2010 at 1:06 PM)

Happy Birthday America! I think that America has so many wonderful things already so I would give friendship, love and laughter. I would also like to invent a magical transportation device so I can travel in an instant to your beautiful country and of course you can use it to travel to England in return xxx

Thanks for the fantastic digis.

corrie71  – (July 4, 2010 at 4:10 PM)

Thanks for the chance to win!

BABYBORICUA  – (July 4, 2010 at 4:16 PM)

Faith, Hope and Charity! Who couldn't use more of these?

Thank you for the goodies!

Cindy N.  – (July 4, 2010 at 5:11 PM)

Eco friendly water, air, and land to continue to treat this land wonderfully and a promise not to build anymore...that's what I would give it. You know, they just are NOT making anymore land, but shopping centers and houses continue to be made. It certainly has given me a wonderful place to live, work, and see all the wonderful places in this fine land.

Purple Card Lady  – (July 4, 2010 at 6:35 PM)

I would give America the love..and lots of it. I truly believe that love conquers anything. Happy Birthday America!!

Ardilla  – (July 4, 2010 at 8:10 PM)

More love in everything, specially families and all relationships... and of course, that love could be shown with cards :)

Christine  – (July 4, 2010 at 8:50 PM)

peace, love and understanding... not just a line from an Elvis Costello song, but my Birthday wish for America and all who reside within her boundaries.

Sonya  – (July 4, 2010 at 9:21 PM)

I wish for America to have peace, food and house for our homeless and hungry and jobs for all. I wish this for America becauase I give a gift every day as my son is a Marine and I miss him desprately and want so much for him to return home.

Shelley  – (July 5, 2010 at 7:56 AM)

so many things to give the USA for it's birthday. All of my sons have served or are serving all ready, so I guess I'll have to think of smoothing else. Howl about everyone treating each other with respect and give. Maybe that will be the beginning of a less economic down turn for us all.

Unknown  – (July 5, 2010 at 7:57 AM)

Bring the troops home and end this war!

Unknown  – (July 5, 2010 at 12:44 PM)

What a FUN tour...thanks for doing it! I will be making several cards to send in with the ones I already have made!

Mrs. Jones from the Circus  – (July 5, 2010 at 2:20 PM)

Indeed a great question! I would give America all my love for her birthday. What better gift can one give?

Susan  – (July 5, 2010 at 2:28 PM)

I put up my third day post in the wee hours this morning/last night...with an apology, and then added the cards a little while ago. PLEASE come visit :)

I would further gift America:

Democracy and Humanity the world over, so we wouldn't have to go in and intervene.

God Bless America, God Bless our Troops!

wintam  – (July 5, 2010 at 2:55 PM)

I'd give her the wisdom to know who her friends are and the courage to support them.

Ronda S  – (July 5, 2010 at 4:11 PM)

I would give America a new heart.
A heart for her people
A heart for her troops
A heart for the hurt and broken
A heart for her neighbors
A heart for the God that blessed her so richly.

Susan  – (July 6, 2010 at 4:17 AM)

Atten: JOCSIE #47...My computer security will not allow me to access your blog. I am guessing you have some sort of advertisements on there...which means at least one of them has spyware attached to it, you may want to check this out.

If it were in my power, I would forgive America all her foreign and domestic debts so we could start anew with lower taxes and better services to all her citizens. Being in debt is such a burden on individuals, organizations and countries. That's what I'd give America as a big birthday present.

My birthday present to America would be an unlimited supply of food so that we may never have a hungry child ever again.

Is this possible?

Those cards are really amazing! Did you make them all by yourself? Well i guess the best gift that America can have as of the moment is love and peace.
